Studies on the Hearing of Various Workers


Abstract
Studies were made of the result of audiometry of various workers (29 cases of wire-operator, 81 cases of telephone girl, 54 cases of workers ¢¥of the spinning department in a cotton spinning mill, 85 cases of workers of the weaving department in a cotton spinning mill, 27 cases of tank-man & artillerists, 34 ¢¥-cases of locomotive engineers) And each group of workers was compared with 20 normal control hearing group. The author also observed the recovery state of the hearing impairment of 29 weaving workers in a cotton spinning mill. The following results were obtained.
1) Mean value of examined data of the high tone range was 0.87 db, speech range, 2.75 db in its normal air conduction, and the former was 0.62 db, the latter, 3.06 db in its right normal air conduction.
2) The incidence of the hearing impairment of various workers was compared, to obtain following results: workers of weaving department in first, second locomotive engineer, third artillerists, fourth workers of spinning department, fifth telephone girl, sixth wire-operator respectively.In the same mill the incidence of the hearing impairment of the weaving workers was higher than that of the spinning workers.
3) Hearing recovery by taking rest (average 10 days) and medication (vitamin B1 1,000 mg+meprobamate 800 mg in daily doses) were examined on workers in the weaving department, and both cases except Cs showed poor improvement (up to 5 db) in average hearing gain.
